Project Abstract

Specialty Products Company is a leader and manufacturer of high-quality alignment parts for vehicles. Due to a rapidly growing customer list and sales, the entirety of the warehouse racking needed to be rotated and condensed, and additional pallet racks needed to be built to fill the newly available footprint. All warehouse layout alteration activities had to occur outside of business hours in order to maintain service to customers, while the 3000+ SKUs within the space required close tracking during move activities. Fourteen double rows consisting of 100+individual bays of racking were unloaded, disassembled, rotated, and placed into a new configuration, while an additional four rows of pallet racking were built to optimize floor space.

Project Summary

Pivotal provided project management services including change management planning and on-site vendor coordination services for SPC. Close communication with warehouse management and all staff aided in the success of daily operations after each subsequent nightly transition. At the end of each evening, products and components had to be placed back onto the newly oriented racks, and a detailed log of all locations was maintained and sent to the client for daily reference. New (used) pallet racking that was purchased did not match the latching mechanism of existing–requiring special oversight to make sure individual beams and uprights were being installed in specific locations. Upon the completion of reorientation and new rack setup, a full rotation/change of inventory locations was required to land specified SKUs into the predetermined final rack locations.
