Project Abstract

In 2016, Wheat Ridge Animal Hospital (WRAH) and Ethos Veterinary Health merged to create a premier class of veterinary clinics & services in the United States. As part of this effort, WRAH partnered with Pivotal for Owners Representation, Relocation Management, and Construction Management services. A key challenge for the business and facility owners was maintaining their current practice activity, customer service levels, and profitability while designing, building, and relocating to the new location. WRAH Principals clearly defined the brand impression the facility should express—to both their customers and the veterinary community.

Teamwork was key. Pivotal and WRAH management established SME groups to provide critical inputs on function, process, and design requirements to improve clinical and customer service levels. WRAH identified a local property to purchase and asked Pivotal to evaluate the site’s potential and identify any existing issues to ensure it aligned with their project goals. Pivotal advised WRAH to purchase the adjacent lot and the subject site to accommodate the anticipated growth of customers and employees. With a well-defined understanding of the final product, the Owner, Architect, General Contractor, and Project Manager brought the project to completion on time and under budget. Wheat Ridge Animal Hospital was awarded Hospital of the Year by dvm360 in 2018.

Project Summary

Pivotal Project Management provided full life cycle Owners Rep, Relocation Management, & Construction Management services. Working with Hyder Construction and Studio DH Architects under a GMP contract and using a design-build model to achieve an aggressive schedule, Pivotal freed the asset owners’ time to focus on their practice. Furthermore, Pivotal engaged all public utility providers, local neighbors, municipalities, and AHJs to address the impacts the project would have during the construction and delivery phases of Pivotal’s project timeline.

Pivotal established key quality control standards amongst the GC and subcontracted partners to deliver a human-grade hospital that happens to service companion pets. Pivotal managed the owner-carried responsibilities, including low-voltage cabling, security and access control, audio/visual, furniture, and signage vendor scopes through RFPs and on-site supervision. In tight coordination with a certificate of occupancy final inspections, Pivotal relocated 120 employees, 14 animals under care, controlled substances, FF&E, technology, and contents over 3 days.

Our greatest accomplishment: All emergency services were maintained 24/7, and no animals suffered a lack of care during the relocation.
